Booking Through Thursday – Summer Reading Redux (July 18)

btt2This week Booking Through Thursday poses the following questions:

Do your reading habits change in the summer? Do you take your books outside more? Do you curl up in the air conditioning? Do you read fluff instead of serious books? Are you too busy playing in the sun or gardening or whatever to read much at all?

I don’t think my reading habits change that much in the summer. I try to get outside and read more often as we have a well shaded backyard, but these past few days I’ve been happy to stay inside with the air conditioning, because yesterday our humidex was in the low 40’s Celsius. I try to catch up with books in the summer that have been in my TBR pile for too long, but too often other books come along to distract me. I probably read more books on my Kobo or iPad in the summer, probably because they are easier to travel with.

  1. I’ve never heard of a “humidex” before, but that sounds like a really useful way to report the weather. The closest I can get is the “Real Feel” from Accuweather.

    • It sounds like ‘Real Feel’ is pretty similar to ‘Humidex’, but either way anything in the 40’s is too much for me! Thanks for dropping by.

    • I totally agree. I grew up in far milder climes, so when it gets this hot I try to hide inside where it’s cool. Thanks for visiting and I’ll be sure to check your BTT as well.

    • I’m just thankful for our air conditioning. I’m not a huge fan of the hot weather either. Thanks for dropping by.

  2. I do change my reading habits during summer as I like the prose equivalent of big blockbusters.I always enjoy a big book of history during the summer months. So far, the only one on my radar is Between Man and Beast: An Unlikely Explorer, the Evolution Debates, and the African Adventure that Took the Victorian World by Storm.Other than that:Doc Savage: Skull IslandIsaac Bell #3 (by Clive Cussler)Inferno by Dan BrownAnd whatever comics and books I get from this weekend’s Comicpalooza in Houston.
