This week I have chosen Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson for my Friday meme combo. I just started it yesterday and am really enjoying it so far. GoodReads has the following description:
“As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I’m still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me. . . .”
Memories define us.
So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep?
Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love—all forgotten overnight.
And the one person you trust may be telling you only half the story.
Welcome to Christine’s life.
Now for this week’s excerpts:
Book Beginnings is hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader, who invites anyone to join in, saying: ‘Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author. Leave a link to your post. If you don’t have a blog, but want to participate, please leave a comment with your Book Beginning.’
The beginning of Before I Go To Sleep:
The bedroom is strange. Unfamiliar. I don’t know where I am, how I came to be here. I don’t know how I’m going to get home.
The idea of this book fascinates me and I’m looking forward to seeing where it all ends up.
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it) that grabs you.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
It’s that simple.
From page 56 of Before I Go To Sleep:
“But why was I working as a secretary?” I said.
“It was the only job you could get. Times were hard.”
I can’t imagine having to rely every day on those around me to supply me with my memories, but that’s what the main character in this book has to go through. I’m hoping to read a good chunk of it this weekend.
